In the scene at the hospital after Simon rescues the kids from the submerged bus, you can see that he is still wearing his hearing aid even though he was wearing them underwater. There is no hearing aid even today that would survive being submerged underwater multiple times.
Actually, there are waterproof hearing aids. I wear hearing aids, and so does my best friend. Hers are waterproof, but mine are not. However, mine have accidentally been in water many times (they even went through the laundry once, oops!!!), and they still work just fine. So even ones that aren't waterproof can, if you're lucky, be OK after going in the water for extended periods of time. Just wanted to clarify.
