Just look at the license plate of the car Carter and Lee drive in during most of the movie. In the beginning of the movie the license plate is white and starts with "J.Y.", then when Lee is driving Carter to the airport, the license plate in now yellow and starts with "J.G."
Well, if you watched the movie and payed attention, you would know that in the beginning they were in China/Hong Kong. Then, they had to take a plane to the United States/Los Angeles area. So obviously they had two different cars and two different licence plates. It's kind of hard to take your car over with you, you know.
