In one part of the movie, they are supposed to be in India, but everyone is speaking Sinhalese, which is the national language of Sri Lanka, a completely different country from India!
The movie wasn't really filmed in India. They had trouble getting permission to film in India because the government didn't want them to use words like maharajah and so on. They filmed a little outside of India and in a studio lot, probably back at England.
