After Kiefer Sutherland gets hit by Billy Mahoney the first time, he stitches up a wound under/beside his right eye. Every time after this the stitched up wound is beside his left eye.
I think that Kiefer was actually looking in a mirror to put the stitches in, this would account for them being on the other side of his face for the remainder of the film.
