In the battle of Stirling Bridge, the one the Scottlish won, they won because of their tactics, involving both a river and a bridge. Looked like a flat field to me.
I remember them fighting on a bridge in the first battle scene, they won this battle.

It's a well known and much lamented fact that bridge fights involved a couple of thousand extras don't make for good cinema. I think it was supposed to be foggy, too.

Historical inaccuracies are not slip ups. This was obviously done on purpose for cinematic reasons.
