When Mccloud is old and he meets the girl she goes down a fire escape thing to get to the street which goes back up to the top in a wide shot.

Then when she meets Mccloud a second later we can see the fire escape type thing still moving up.Even though it was already at the top of the catwalk where the woman got onto it.
