As anyone that has seen this movie can probably remember, that girl monkey gets branded on her hand. But, in the future when she shows Lt Davidson (the human) the brand, you can clearly see that it is drawn on with some kind of pen or felt marker.
When does this scene occur? Are you sure that it is in the new movie, from 2001?

Uh, not quite. I'm assuming you're drawing this conclusion based on the fact that the symbol has a black outline. However, this IS an accurate depiction of a branding . . . the edges of the burn are black.
