Throughout the movie ellie (jodie foster) seems to sit near a canyon or valley pretty close to the VLA (very large array) when in reality there is no canyon that close.
Read the book, folks. It was a very important part that was explained in the book. Ellie drives to the Grand Canyon quite often to get away. She also drives all over the desert to settle her nerves.
