During Bill Clinton's speech at the Democratic National Convention, he says, "And as that famous LAPD Detective Joe Friday used to say, 'just the facts, ma'am'." This is wrong. Joe Friday actually NEVER said 'just the facts, ma'am'. Therefore, this statement is false.
Yeah, and Joe Friday never was really on the LAPD either. What's the point? Ask anybody on the street who said "Just the facts Ma'am." and they'll say Joe Friday.
What? I watched every single episode of Dragnet plus, as the other person commenting noted, Joe Friday is known for using this phrase constantly. I'm confused why this slip up was even allowed because it's fake.
Actually Joe Friday did say, "Just the facts ma'am". You have to go back to Nick at Night and look for Dragnet on your local TV stations and listen to Joe Friday say it. :)
I've never heard this phrase uttered on the Dragnet TV series, and Jack Webb himself once said that he never said it as Joe Friday. However, in the late 80's Dragnet movie, Dan Ackroyd, as Joe Friday did say "just the facts if you don't mind ma'am".
How do you misquote someone that doesnt exist? "That famous LAPD policeman" never existed. He was a composite and a character made up of
1) Many stories sent in by cops
2) His own traits, so as to seem real
It's like on Star Trek, it's known for "Beam me up, Scotty" although they never said it once.
but if I'd never have heard that, I would have been sure that they did.
in silence of the lambs hannibal lecter is famous for saying, "why hello clarice." im not sure about the book but i know he never says it in the movie. he actually says, "good evening clarice"
