McPartlen, Ant - 4 Decades?
When Ant, Dec and Cat where talking about eddy Grant after his performance Cat said "How old do you think he is?-he's been in the music industry for 4 decades" and Ant said "38?" This is less than four decades meaning he would of been making music two years before he was born!

4 decades - that would be 2000-2009, the 90s, the 80s, and the 70s. 38 years ago would be 1963 - meaning he could have been making music over the 4 decades if he started young, or at the end of the 70s. Either way, Ant could technically have been right.

No he couldn't have been right... at all! If he had been making music for 4 decades that would mean 40 years and if Ant guessed that he was 38 years of age that would make him completely and utterly wrong.

I take the "FOR" to mean throughout each decade--"I have been around FOR four decades" meaning 40 full years. But you may be able to twist it to mean IN each decade. The years spanning 1969-2001 cover four decades, yet it is only 31 years. Regardless, though, he would have had to start in the music business when he was still playing stickball on Electric Ave.

I can't believe I'm defending one half of this talentless pair of twerps. Eddy Grant has been in the business for 38 years. He was originally a member of the group the Equals, whose single Baby Come Back topped the UK charts in the summer of 1968. When the Geordie idiot said "38 years" he obviously meant how long Eddy Grant has been performing. On the subject of decades, if you count 38 years as a continuous period, it's four decades. If you're talking about calendar decades, it's five (60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s).
