In the last game the replacements play in the last quarter and the last play, Keanu Reeves asks if anyone else wants the ball. Surprisingly the deaf man said he did but what surprised me the most was that the man can't hear Keanu say that because he's deaf and he can't read lips.
Why would you say that he can't read lips? Of course he can!! Think back to the scene where the fat offensive coach first met him. The coach asked him where he learned to catch like that, and -gasp!- he answered!!!
of course he can read lips. How the hell would he have understood what Martel said about him and what the offensive line coach said in the beginning of the movie?
