In the one scene where Brendon Fraiser is fling in the zepplin, you see in the background the Nile river flowing into the horizon beneath where the sun is setting. But, the Nile river doesn't flow west into the sunset! It flows north into the Mediterranian!!!
You should look at a map. The Nile doesn't flow straight north. It's like any river with a lot of twists and turns. It flows to the west in several places, although it does go generally north.
