When Max opens up the door after he has gotten the dog he sees Slick out side of his door when he gets his newspaper he calls to Lucky to kill slick. When lucky chases slick you see first John coming out of the house to get his newspaper. As slick runs under his legs you see John without the news paper. Then as lucky runs under John's legs you see John with the newspaper. Either he's a really fast old man or it's a blooper!
