Was this on a TV version that you saw these microphones? Often when a movie is edited for TV (4:3 aspect ratio) they not only cut off portions of the sides, but they also include a little bit on the top and bottom that were not in the movie. (This allows them to get to the 4:3 ratio without having to cut as much out of the sides.) Whenever you see a movie in 4:3 with a LOT of microphone slip ups, it is virtually always in mistake in the conversion and was not seen in the movie. There are also cases where an actress is mad because a nude scene shows a lot more than it was supposed to because the original movie version ended before the nudity but after conversion, you can see it.
