Pearl Harbor - Check Your History
In the movie when Raf and Danny get to the airfield, Danny calls Earl and tells him to get the planes ready. Earl asks Danny what's going on and Danny says "I think WWII just started!" They would have never said that because WWI and WWII were not named such until both wars were already over. In fact, WWI was called the Great War until named WWI.
In a movie that paid attention to detail they missed this one!

This is more correting a mistake on your part. He actually says " I think World War two just hit us". He could have called WWI that name because that is what he thought it was.

He may have called it WWII without knowing it would be known as that; some people are calling the fighting in Israel WWIII.

That person (Danny?) could have just came up with WW2 on his own, making the assumption that this war was as bad as the first one. Would they not have already named WW1 by that time?

In a part of the movie one of the military men calls Russia Russia. But at that time it was still the USSR. Which is a big mistake, I noticed it the first time I saw the movie.

You have to be joking here. the quote is "I think world war II just hit us." World war II had been raging for over two years elsewhere round the world. If you read less American Biased History books, you would learn that the war began on 3rd September 1939 when Britain declared war on Nazi Germany when they refused to withdraw troops from Poland. A state of war existed across Europe. You will find that the War was in full flow with the US remaining Neutral. It didn't miraculously become World war II once the US joined, rather the US joined World war II.

Jezzyka, you are way off the mark. Even while it was still the U.S.S.R., it was still often referred to as "Russia", just as the population was often referred to as "Russians" rather than "Soviets".

chadelian or whatever your name is, no one called world war II, world war II, until after it was over. Like the esteemed colleague above pointed out, World War I was simply called the Great War or the World War.
