Die Hard - Harry or Ellis?
In the beginning of the movie (the opening credits are still being flashed on the screen) Holly is being propositioned by the "Director of International Development." She responds to his come-on by saying "Harry, it's Chrismas Eve..." (this can be confirmed by watching it with CC) Now, throughout the rest of the movie this character is referred to as "Ellis." In the credits he is also referred to as just "Ellis." I thought that perhaps his name was Harry Ellis, but the fact that he is only "Ellis" in the credits and he seems to have two different names in the movie shows that somewhere a name change took place without proper documentation (credits).

I'm not sure if I'm right, it's just a suggestion, but maybe Harry is his first name and Ellis is his last name? Sometimes in movie credits, they will only give someone's first OR last name.

Yeah, that's a valid point, but the only reason I might think it's not true is that Takagi refers to him as "Ellis," too. I just assume that in a high-profile company where the boss and his employees seem to be "close" that the boss would address his employees by their first names. And, if the boss were to address his employees by their surnames, he would use a "Mr." or a "Ms." in front of it, and Takagi doesn't.

The actor's name is Hart Bochner, so maybe Harry is his nickname.

I just watched the scene and Holly (Bonnie Bedelia) definitely called the jerky guy "Harry" when his name is Ellis through the rest of the movie. Bonnie made a boo-boo. I am surprised that they let this one pass since Bonnie's back is to the camera during this line and they could have easily dubbed in the right name.

His name is Harry Ellis. His boss, and everyone around him calls him Ellis. The credits call him Ellis. Get over it.

His name is HARRY ELLIS. Everyone was calling him by his last name and Holly was obviously being serious with him and called him by his first name. Credits usually only put the person's last name because it was used more often.
