Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon, The (Stephan King) - Aren't Editors Paid to Edit?
During the game against the Yankees where Gordon saves the game, Jason Varitek is mentioned a few times but his name is spelled wrong. It's spelled Veritek. The first time I saw it I thought it was just an innocent editing mistake - but it's spelled with an "E" instead of an "A" every time. Shouldn't the editor(s) have noticed that?!?!?!
No. An editor's job is to edit for content while a proof reader's job is to verify spellings of names, grammar (sometimes), dates, chronology, and the like.

The only reason I can think of to intentionaly mispell a persons name is so you aren't sued for proceeds from the fictional book.
