Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets - More Messed Up Time
In page 4 in the 3rd paragraph it says "left on the Dursleys' doorstep 11 years before". But in the 5th paragraph, it says "he had spent ten years with the Dursleys'"
Where was he for the other year????
He means that before last year "he had spent ten years with the Dursleys'". The paragraph after that states that "exactly a year ago, Hogwarts had written to Harry'". The last year to the eleven years is the previous year.

To understand this you would have to read further along in the "10 years" paragraph. It says, "He spent 10 years with the Dursleys, never understanding why he kept making odd things happening without meaning to...", which means that he understood why he has done it for 1 year (the eleventh year) because thats when he found out he was a wizard. The year before, in book number 1. :)

Lord Voldemort writes:
In the 2nd book he's 12. He was left there when he was 1. He was there for 10 years before he found out he was a wizard.

A week later, Harry turns 12. Left on the Dursleys' footstep ten years and eleven months before . . . does it sound as good? 11 years is just rounded off.

ashley, you have it half right, (I think) because he spent most of one year at hogwarts, that doesn't count as being with the Dursley's does it? Take it from someone who can recite the books. (I don't have them with me now:) Mr. And Mrs. Dursley of number four Privit drive were proud to say that they were perfectly normal, thank you very much.... *trails off*

The book clearly says, "At the age of one year old, Harry had somehow survived a curse....." which means that he lived with his parents for the first year.

This is not a slip up because Harry did not live with his Aunt and Uncle for his entire life, he did spend time with his parents before Lord Voldemort killed them. This therefore explains the time lapse.

It said clearly in the first book (if you bothered to pay attention) that he was at the age of one when he was left on the doorstep. what you think happened, he was born on the doorstep or something?

It says 11 years because it is Harry's birthday. If you had read farther it would tell you that.

if he spent 1 year with his parents, then up until the 1st year at hogwarts, he spent 10 years with the dursleys.the 10th year with the dursleys would be the same year he turned 11 and went to hogwarts. the slip up says>> In page 4 in the 3rd paragraph it says "left on the Dursleys' doorstep 11 years before". But in the 5th paragraph, it says "he had spent ten years with the Dursleys'" he WAS left on the Dursleys' doorstep 11 years before(cuz it would be his bday then) and he did spent 10 years with the dursleys cus the 11th year was spent with his parents!!! soo ha!!!IM RIGHT! THIS IS NOT A SLIP UP AT ALL BUT INFACT A MISSUNDERSTANDING!

If you enter a shop at 1 o'clock and leave at 2 o'clock, you have both ENTERED an hour ago and SPENT an hour there. There cannot be a difference between how long ago Harry was left at the doorstep, and the amount of time he spent at that house. So as far as I know, it's a slip up. Am I missing something?

Even if it says it was 11 years because it was his birthday... counting back 11 years from eleven still makes him 0 years old. So if he just turned 11 and was left on the doorstep 11 years ago, that still means he was 0 years old when he was left there, does it not? I really must be missing something. Either that, or your explanations don't make sense. I think it was a slip-up.
