In the beginning when Jo's dad is getting everyone up and ready, he glances at the TV. Notice on his TV at the bottom of the screen: it says TORNADOW ARNING instead of TORNADO WARNING
Ok, first off, I live in Oklahoma, I have all my life. The TV Warning is exactly like they do in real life, the guy on the screen is named Gary England and has been at KWTV in Oklahoma City forever (9online.com). The scene was from 1969, and television technology was exteremly primitive, especially when it came to graphics. Most likely they could not put a space in for whatever reason between TORNADO and WARNING. As a life-long Okie, I feel I must say that this movie has as much basis in reality as Snow White. Tornados do NOT work like that folks... really! The most blatant slip up in the entire movie is when they say that an F-5 (or F-whatever) is coming. Until the advent of Doppler 9000 (about 10 yrs ago) the only way to determine the speed of the tornado was to go out and survey the damage AFTER it went through. Go to KWTV's website (9online.com) and read about the May 3, 1998 tornado. THAT was real!
