Great Outdoors, The - Canada or U.S.?
When the family goes to visit the 109 year old man, John Candy says that he's the oldest man in Canada. But, when John Candy and his son are at the bear observation area and the bears are all over his car, his son says 'Isn't it illegal to drive with a bear on your car?' and Candy replies something like 'I'm not sure what the law is in this state'. If they're in Canada then they can't be in a 'state', they'd be in a province.

They're in the North Woods. They probably go back and forth between the two countries depending on where they are. The town might be in the United States and their campground in Canada or vice versa.

Doubtful on the back and forth. The film takes place in Wisconsin which does not border Canada. According to Google it's about a 3.5 hour drive between Wisconsin and Canada at their closest point.
