In the scene where Jed Clam-pets son is in the office sharping pencils, his assistant or secretary walks in with more pencils. If you look, right before she walks in the door, he already has a big bundle of pencils, but after she hands him another bundle, the other that was on his desk is gone. WOW!!!
First of all, Jed Clampet doesn't have a son. Jethro is his nephew. Second of all, Jethro wanted more pencils, because he already sharpened another pile of pencils and probably put them in a drawer.
