In the season finale this year (May 2001), the press conference is held at the State Dept. As the motorcade takes President Bartlett from the White House to the State Dept., it goes right past National Cathedral (where you see a janitor picking up Bartlett's cigarette butt). The National Cathedral isn't even close to being on route -- it's approximately 3 miles off the route, which is only a few blocks anyway.
