When Will Smith and Kevin Kline go to Dr. Loveless's party a quartet is playing classical music throughout the party. The first shot of the quartet shows the cello is on the right side, but when the camera turns to it again, the cello is on the left! Must be hard to play while walking to the other side of the platform.
In fact, when Loveless makes his entrance, as the camera moves back you can see that the Lincoln head is flanked by two quartets with different seating arrangements. Maybe that's what you saw.
