1) Watch the episode Hello, Pummelo!
2) Watch the part where Ash exchanges Snorlax for Tauros.
3) In Showdown at the Po-Ke Corral, Professor Oak said that Ash's Tauros were from the Safari Zone, and we see Ash's Safari Balls.
4) If you watch Hello, Pummelo, you'll see that Tauros is in a Poke Ball!

There was an episode that was cut out of the series that had Ash catching tauros at the safari zone, so he could have used one of the tauros from there. and if you're wondering, the episode got cut cuz the warden shot up team rocket, they didn't think small children would enjoy that kind of violence.
