Armageddon - Who Is Noonan?
From watching the movie we know who the main characters of Bruce Willis's roughneck crew are. The FBI national hunt-down search sequence introduces them one by one, until we get to the sequence in the NASA conference room when Bruce Willis gives them the news that the meteor is coming. As we go around the room and each character agrees to the mission, we've got an extra guy. Noonan! He's the one who says, "I can't let you guys go up there alone." He's also seen all through out the teams training and medical exams,(except for the psyche examination, and the Liv Tyler "not a little girl" talk.) Watch for him, he is also the guy who's demands for the government were to have two young illegal alien ladies made full citizens no questions asked. He's part of the team right up until when the shuttle that A.J. is on crashes. Thing is if he died we only see Oscar dead and no mention of Noonan. He's the mystery character that has no purpose in the film what so ever. And if I'm not mistaken his picture is not at the wedding sequence of the movie that are there to honor the dead.

Hi guys, Having seen this movie a gazillion times, I just thought I'd add my two cents. Although Noonan isn't mentioned in the initial round-up, he is mentioned several times apart from those already mentioned. You first see him briefly as the crew arrive at NASA and as they arrive for their initial training. When they are in the desert training on the Armadillo, Bruce Willis says his name as he announces the crews for each shuttle, and also Will Patton clearly says "Freddy, are you OK?" as he comes out of the examination at the NASA hospital. His picture IS at the end duing Grace's wedding but it's only visible on the widescreen version as it is right at the corner of the shot. One scene that most people probaly haven't noticed is right after the shuttle is hit and the pilots are blown out of the cockpit, you see Noonan's face briefly looking out of a shattered window. Just after that, several people are shown inside the cockpit getting blown around so I assume one of them was him as you can't see who is who with their helmets on (the only other person not accounted for was Halsey, the guy who was supposed to arm the nuke, and the only person with a non-speaking role in the main cast). Google the cast Dodge... you are such a confident genius. The actor that plays CHICK, Harry's main man aka the guy with the estranged wife n kid is NOT Noonan. Noonan is just an extra with a few lines. Noonan does die, though it isn't visually covered AJ mentions losing 2 friends when he's riding the armadillo... (oscar and Noonan). CHICK makes it back home to his kid and wife. Please do some BASIC research before you bid buddy.

You were wrong about what he said. He was the one that said, "I guess I can't let you go up there alone." He is also AJ's best friend, so I imagine that he was on that rig in the beginning of the movie.

In addition to what Dodge said, Noonan was mentioned by Grace on the rig. "...I learned about the birds and the bees from Benny Noonan's tattoo..." This backs up what Ali said about Grace saying "...How about Benny he's good..." Benny is Noonan.

When the Independence crashes, Lev, A.J and Bear hide in the cargo bay. The two pilots got blown out and Oscar dies. Noonan's helmet got blown off. I saw that in the movie. So yes, he's dead.

I think Noonin and Benny are the same person...if you listen when they're talking about rounding up all the people, Liv Tyler suggests that Benny run the other rig...that's who Noonin is

It is not Noonan that Bruce Willis says, "Get 'em paid, get 'em off the rig!" to. He says this to Chick. It is also not Noonan that his wife and kid go to meet, it is Chick also. And I don't think his name is Benny Noonan, either, because if you watch the video version with closed captioning, Grace says, "I learned about the birds and the bees from Freddie Noonan's tatoos."

When AJ is talking to the Russian on the asteroid (when they are trying to find the other shuttle), he says, "....I lost two of my friends back there....," refering to Oscar and Noonan.

I know, I have always thought the EXACT same thing. When they introduced everyone, they didn't mention him or his "traits", but then he was in the conference room and everything. Maybe he chickened out on the mission(even though nothing was mentioned) because I don't think I even saw him in any space suit.

What on earth are you guys on about. The man you are referring to is on the rig at the beginning, because Bruce tells him upon departing with the FBI 'pay the guys and let them out of here' Fair enough he isn't in the famous FBI roundup, but he is the one who says 'have i ever let you down before' and also, as someone has already said he is referred to as the one with the other ranch. He then goes and sees his wife and gives his son a little spaceship. He is then also in the 'little girl' scene and then also on the mission because he calls Bruce a stubborn bathplug for remaining to press the button even though A.J. chose the short straw, He is also on the end when they land where his wife and son are waiting for him. ????? wake up, eh.
