At the end of the movie notice the part where General Grant gives West and Gordon badges and tells them they're part of the secret service.

Well...

In real life the Secret Service was not invented until the time when Theodore Roosevelt was in office.

Mark Milliorn writes:: No, the Secret service goes back to 1865. Ironically, Lincoln created the service on the same day he was assassinated. The SS started work July 5, 1865. The SS was, and is, a branch of the Treasury, so they handled counterfeiting cases. During the Civil War, as much as a third of the money circulating was counterfeit.
