When William's mom thinks he's going to the dance and tells him to call her if anyone gets drunk, we see him running down the street in the next shot. As he's running, if you look at his shoulder bag, his pens are falling out of it.
Pens fall out of bags sir. It just happens. That does not qualify as a slip up only because a child is reckless and inconsiderate of drivers and garbage men to pick up his mess.
