In the part of the movie where Duece is cleaning Antoine's little pond and he see's the mongerel coy, he falls backwards (onto his back) into the water. Then, Antione's hand is on his shoulder--in the next shot, 1 second later, Duece is standing straight up on the ground.
In the film industry, when a film is being edited there is a technique called 'compressed time'.
It is when unnecessary footage is cut out during the editing process. It keeps the pace of the film going, and I believe that the makers of 'Deuce Bigalow' wanted that scene to have reasonably fast paced action.
What you saw was just an editing technique used to keep the speed of the film going, not a slip-up.
