I guess my eyes would be pale too if I saw my dad falling to his death. Think about it. That was for dramatic effect, Disney's all about dramatic effect.

Actually, from my memory, it seemed like his eyes had a yellow ring around the colored parts. If that's so, the animators probably did that to make it more dramatic and to make Simba look like he was scared.

Actually, I don't think his eyes changed color at all. When you get the close up and his eyes look pale, his pupils are very tiny. But when his pupils return to their normal size, they shrink the amount of the color in his eyes you see. I think because there's less black, the colored part looks paler.

Ummm yeah... Simba usually has reddish-brownish eyes, but the stampede isn't the only scene where they seem paler... they're also pale when he first is talking to Timon and Pumbaa, if I remember correctly (right before they start singing Hakuna Matata). I heard about this somewhere else and looked for it, that's where I noticed it, they seem to be pale for no reason sometimes.. it's not just for dramatic effect, because there's nothing dramatic going on when he talks to Timon and Pumbaa, and it's not just the pupils smaller because he's in bright light, because in some bright light scenes he has reddish-brownish eyes again.. also when they're pale, they're like a yellow color, couldn't be confused with reddish-brown even if it was just the pupils changing.. oh well I dunno..
