In the scene where Pudge and Chip are in the dance contest, the last couple finishes dancing and the judges are making their decision. Meanwhile, Carson, Buzz, Lou Anne, and Harley are watching them. Then before the judges announce the contest winner Carson says, "They won!" Either she is a very skilled lip reader or this scene was out of sequence.
I cannot believe someone would get so wound up over what could be the girls wishful thinking. It might just be possible that everyone there knew that Caroline and Skip were the best dancers in that sorry contest and went ahead and celebrated.

This is my all-time favorite movie and I've seen it hundreds of times. Carson does not say "They won!" She says "What? Luanne!"
