In Patrick Henry's "Speech to the Virginia Convention," Henry makes a mythological allusion to the sirens. In his allusion, the sirens "turn men to beasts." The sirens sung songs to lure sailors to their deaths. Circe was the creature who transformed men into beasts.
The speech to the Virginia Convention as we read it today is not the actual speech that was given. It is a questionably accurate adaptation of the actual speech. It is not possible to know what Patrick Henry actually said.
