Pokemon - A Talking PokéMon
In the episode before "Haunter vs. Kadabra," listen carefully to Charmander just before Haunter licks him. You should hear it say, "Smile then?" WHAT??? Pokémon are only supposed to say their name!!!

HEY!!! That isn't much of an error. As a matter of fact, because of the large number of errors, the staff of that show should be fired, with a better staff replacing.

Are you absolutely sure that Charmander said this? Aren't you the same person who said, "IT'S HAUNTER NOT HOUNDOUR!" (Houndour being the name of a Pokemon in Gold/Silver). I haven't double checked this, but if you had your close captioning on then it's possible some other character said it. FYI: Not all Pokemon say their names. Krabby/Kingler goes "koookie koookie", Dragonite just screams, Aerodactl makes a crying sound, Onix goes, "rooooaaarrr", etc.

Ummm... you are really off. Charmander says "Mander" which is short for Charmander. You are right about one thing, they can only say their name or a short a form of it, in this case.

The people who do the closed captioning in a lot of shows don't always have a script to go by, and so they end up entering in the captioning based on what they hear. Because of this they don't always get everything right. Maybe the person who captioned that particular episode >thought< Charmander said something, and put it in.

okay, he says Man-Der, which sounds really really like smile then, and the TV caption says smile then.

Torin Darkflight is right. I live in the U.K.One day I was watching Fresh Prince of Bel Air. A little boy made a comment about " picking up girls at the jungle gym", but the subtitles read " picking up girls at the jungle, Jim".

It's not the episode of "Haunter Vs Kadabra", it's the episode of "The Ghost pokemon in the Pokemon Tower" or something like that

The episode was titled "The Tower of Terror" (I remember because it's one of my favorites), and Charmander just said, "Mander?".

In that episode, if you listen, Charmander says "Mander?" But on the captions, it says "Smile then?" I don't really get that. I've watched that episode with the captions on, and I can't figure out what's up with that...
