Star Wars Episode 4: A New Hope - Hyperspace or Not?
After Luke, Han and the others escape from the Death Star we seed Grand Moff Tarkin who talks to Darth Vader about the honing beakon. Vader says that they had gone into hyperspace and a few other things, but that's the important part. In the next scene Han and Leia are talking in the Millennium Falcon's cockpit. You can clearly see that they aren't in hyperspace, there aren't any streaking stars or the whitish-blue tube looking thing from the stars passing by quickly either.

I think that's how it's supposed to be. I think it shows the greyish tube thing when they enter hyper space, and then it goes back to stars when they are in hyper space. I think it says something like that in the book too, but it doesn't really make sense. Why not just leave it in the tube thing?

You're both correct, when in hyperspace, the surroundings are totally white.

I thought it was a" homing" beacon? Or was that a slip up within a slip up?

I saw this the first time I saw it. I would have sent it in, but I didn't know about this site then.

Actually, I do believe this is a slip up as the original poster says. The reason I say that is because you will notice that in Return of the Jedi as the Rebel Fleet is exiting Hyperspace to confront the Death Star, you get a sneak preview of what it looks like to travel through Hyperspace as the Falcon slows down into realspace. There is this swirling, blue/white tube looking thing that is obviously representing travel through hyperspace.

One thing that has always bugged me about this bit is, they go in to hyper space when they leave the death star, (ok we don't know how long they travel in hyper space or if the Death Star can travel in Hyper Space or not)but unless the Death Star can travel in hyper space the rebels would have quite some time before the it turns up! So why not just move the base like they do in ESB.
