In-fact that whole episode is messed up. If you imagine it going the right way, they had a fight, then got fired then began their job. Surely if you were going backwards you would first get fired, then get in a fight then get the job. But i suppose it would have been hard to work it the correct way as they wouldn't have been able to use the bits like, "this is the fight we got fired for", or whatever he says.

I agree it was a difficult episode to envisage. Like when the cat takes the change out of the charity box, the woman says "thank you" (backwards). If time was going backwards then she would have said thank you before the cat took the money. When lister emerges from the lake and the cat mentions that he is dry, this means that Lister would have been soaking wet when he lands in Starbug, another oversight! and so on..

People, people, please! I wish you'd stop nitpicking this episode. You have to take into account many things. First, doing everything absolutely correctly to-the-letter would take even MORE time than it took to make the episode, it would be very confusing, and many of the jokes wouldn't work out. This, personally, is one of my favorite episodes. I'm aware of the fact that the order of events is wrong at times and some of the facts are wrong, but I feel that the episode would be very short from all the jokes they would have to cut out. Who wants to see a ten-minute Red Dwarf episode?
