Sixth Sense, The - Ghosts Can See Into the Future As Well?
near the start of the movie, when cole first leaves the house to enter the church, malcom is sitting on a bench, looking over his notes, if you look carefully at his notes, you can see the words "i first met cole in a church" Malcom hasnt met cole in the church yet, that happens in the next scene.
the notes are more clear when malcom is translating the latin cole speaks, he writes "from the depths i cry to you oh lord" in the margin of the same notes

Well, seeing that Bruce Willis knew where he lived, it's obvious that he had known about him before, and therefore perfectly plausible that he "met" him in the same church sometime previous to that.

I agree with Petruchi as well. I think that was intentional from the writer and the director. A way of telling us he might have known of Cole before he died, but had not finished his case. Maybe he said sorry I am late because the last time they met in that church they had agreed to meet there again. (and he was quite a bit late, :)

It could be that he's been following Cole around for a while (observing as a good psychologist does), and the first time he observed him was in a church (in his ghost state). After he made sufficient observations and notes, only then did he approach his patient.

If you pay attention, Malcolm introduces himself to Cole in the scene where he meets him in the church. I tend to think that if he first saw him in the church, he would write that instead of met him.

In the rules and clues in the bonus footage of The Sixth Sense, it talks about how DR. Malcolm Crowe came home after meeting Cole for the first time, so that means that was the first time he meet him, he had not been seeing him before he died.
