Pleasantville - Before Their Time
In the movie Pleasantville, there is a scene where they are in Pleasantville and the basketball team is practicing. They are still making every shot, nothing has happened yet. Anyway, if you look in the background, you will see an automatic scoreboard. They didn't have automatic scoreboards then. Also, in the same scene if you look at the court they are playing on, you will see it has three-point lines marked. At the time they are in they didn't have a three-point shot.

how do you know? they never say when this movie takes place! electronic scoreboards were first used in 1963 in the Boston Garden, and the three-point line was introduced in the early '70s. I know they give the impression that it took place in the '50s, but that isn't necessarily true.

I have noticed that most of the so called "slip-ups" found in pleasantville are related to the time era. I don't believe these are truly slip-ups because of the fact that the TV show pleasantville IS a fictional town and setting. I believe this was done intentionally so that the crew would have the freedom to do what they wished with the story line without the restraints of time/place accuracy.

I disagree. If you read any trailer/synopsis for Pleasantville, it clearly states that they are zapped into a fifties sitcom. Therefore, all of the previous claims made would be true.

When David and his boss enter the back room in the diner (after he says he doesn't feel like making cheeseburgers anymore) you can see a calendar on the wall behind them that says 1958.

The clothing that the people were in Pleasantville is a dead give on that the year is 1950s something. I mean poodle skirts in the 60s and 70s?!? So yes this guy could definetly be right about the scored board. The clothing is 50s era.

I recall seeing a newspaper very shortly after the boy & girl moved into the series. It said 1958.
