This book by Ingrid Black is set in Dublin around 2008 - on page 167 a photograph of several men is mentioned as being about 20 years old, so presumably about 1988. One of those pictured in it is later said to have disappeared after a night on the town about 5 years later, say 1993. So, back to the current time and it's summarised that he was last seen on CCTV heading for a taxi rank. It's also mentioned that his cellphone had remained unanswered since his disappearance. Now the cellphone idea is just about about possible as networks started to be set up around this time in Ireland but phones were big and expensive in those days so unlikely to be carried about by your average person, especially on a boys' night out. However, the clincher is that Dublin did not get CCTV coverage until 1995. If you're going to reference the past, do the research!
