I thought this was funny....my brother used to be obsessed with Star Trek and he brought me along, so to speak. He pointed this out to me, and I thought it was hilarious! Glad we're not the only ones to notice Scotty's "speed".
OK, if the starboard thrusters are on the engines at the rear of the ship and they fired, it would push the ship's rear to the left, conversly turning the ships front to the left. The result is a clockwise turn. Therefore, they turned right into the path of the wave as Sulu ordered.
