When Scully is trying to access Mulder's computer, she types in the password trustno1 a total of 8 keystrokes, yet if you listen, you can clearly hear her hit 9 keys before she hits the return.

Actually, I noticed a slip-up in my own comment above. If Scully had indeed messed up and backspaced, you would have heard 10 keystrokes, not 9 (8 characters + 1 backspace to erase the wrong character + 1 keystroke for the right character, or 9 characters + 1 backspace to remove an extra character). So maybe she had to hit the tab key once to move focus to the "OK" button?

Or, another alternative which is more plausable than any other is that she had to turn the CAPS lock off. Passwords are notoriously case sensitive. 9 keystrokes ..... QID!

No, Albert, I think you are correct. She may have just typed an extra letter by mistake and deleted it, making it 9 key strokes plus the enter key.
