Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - Where the Guns Working or Not?
In the episode “Return to Grace”, Kyra and Gul Dukat join forces after Dukat is put in command of a pathetic little cargo ship. When Dukat’s ship is raided by a Klingon Bird-of-Prey, Kyra helps the crew install a planetary defense cannon in the cargo hold. When the Klingons return, Kyra and company use the cannon, but instead of destroying the Bird-of-Prey, they only damage it. Realizing that they’re toast the minute the Klingons get their weapons back on line, Kyra does a neat trick with the transporter, causing everyone to trade ships, and the dumbfounded Klingons find themselves on the cargo ship. Aboard the Bird-of-Prey, Kyra laughs as she wonders how the Klingons are going to explain this when they get home. Dukat says grimly that they won’t have to. He then pushes some buttons and fires the phasers, vaporizing the cargo ship, Klingons and all.
Now wait a minute; wasn’t the Bird-of-Prey supposed to be crippled? Weren’t its weapons off-line? How was Dukat able to fire them? And if the guns were working, why didn’t the Klingons use them when they had the chance?
