During the first 15 minutes, Neville is inside a helicopter that is transporting an experimental vaccine. The chopper crashes, but Neville survives. Lying on the ground, he sees the vaccine and crawls over to give himself an injection. When he proceeds to use a hypodermic needle on his leg, you can plainly see a huge block of cardboard or rubber underneath his uniform leg to protect him from being stuck by the needle.
