When Ben is first brought to the "meeting room" and introduced to the scheme, the instructor give a quick explanation of how Black Jack works. As he's doing so, he deals each of the other students (4 of them) one card (face up) plus one card for the dealer (face down). When the camera cuts away, then back, there are 7-8 cards on the table, all face down. After another cut away, there are again 4 face up cards in front of the students, and one face down in front of the dealer.
