In an episode of Bonanza. Michael Rennie is a doctor from England. During an operation, a woman died. Her husband is chasing this doctor to kill him. The doctor relates the story to Hoss, and tells him that the husband thinks of him as a Jack the Ripper with a scalpel...I'm quite sure Bonanza takes place in the 1870's this has been mentioned in earlier episodes. The Jack The Ripper murders took place well into the 1880s. Bonanza even with its long run did not

go into the 1880s.
