Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan - How Do I Know You?
In the scene where Kahn tells Chekhov that he never forgets a face & calls him by name.... Chekhov didnt appear in the origional tv series until the 2nd season. Wheras . The episode in which Kahn first appeared "Space Seed" was aired in the 1st season, so Kahn should have never met Chekhov & would not have possibly known who he was.

While this may be slipup in the writing, it has been explained away by many loyal fans, by the following: "Chekov was aboard the Enterprise when Kahn was there, but he wasn't on the bridge crew, at least not on the day watch. We cannot assume that we see everying that goes on. Kahn met Chekov during the commercials."

Chekov is an ensign. There are tons of ensigns on board the enterprise and there is no reason why he couldn't have been promoted to the honor of being a member of the bridge crew after season one, having been on the Enterprise the whole time. He would also recognize the Botany Bay this way. And Khan is spelled K-H-A-N.

Little known to most people, Chekov was working as an ensign in Engineering when Khan took over the Enterprise in the episode "Space Seed." ;-) Chances are that Khan saw him when he ran down there from the conference room. At least, that's the explanation that most Trekkies have settled on (and yes, I have seen these episodes way too many times.)

This is the movie, not the show. Things always change from show to movie.

If you read the novelization of the WRATH OF KHAN,it is revealed that Pavel was working in the geology department of the Enterprise when Khan first took control of the ship. He did the planet survey of Ceti alpha V and VI. He also had a severe crush on Mcvgiver (the woman who betrayed teh ship and got stranded with Khan.Maybe it is a good thing Khan never found that little tidbit out.I doubt Checkov would have survived By the way ,didn't anyone keep records of the planet survey or are the records that poor in Starfleet.

i think on the DVD ,they made a joke that with the enterprise only having one bathroom that Chekov was in there when Khan had to go so that is why he remembers him

Harve Bennett, Who wrote Star Trek 2, 3 & 4, originally researched the TV show for these movies including for the Wrath of Khan. He originally had Sulu in the place of Chekov, but this was changed, due to a laps of remembering who was amongst the crew when it came to writing the script. Remember VHS was in its infancy in '82, and Paramount only loaned him the Space Seed Episode for a short time on 8mm.
