In the beginning of the movie, when Xander is stealing the Corvette, watch when he gets ready to take off. The camera closes in on the shifter to show him putting the car into 1st gear. Then you see the car BACKING UP.

Are you sure he's putting it in 1st? Some cars (especially high performance ones) have reverse to the far left & up--right next to 1st--as opposed to far right & down.
