Raiders of the Lost Ark - Better Indy Trap
When Indy and the other guy are entering the temple, Indy makes the guy stop and wait while he sets off the spear trap. Wouldn't a trap set off by a shadow go off at night, or for that matter when the sun was no longer pointing straight down the hole? This makes for a good scene, but it just doesn't work for 1936 with ancient technology. Oh ya, who reset the trap after forestal bought it? Don't tell me the Hovitos, they weren't the people who built the traps.

Once again. There is no indication the Hovitos built the traps.

Okay, I understand the argument for cinematic realism. However when Lucas and Spielberg set out to do this film, they both wanted to make an homage to the 30's and 40's Adventure serials (they have both stated this in several interviews). If you have ever seen any of these serial films, the "science" in them is absolutely ludicrous. I think Lucas and Spielberg intentionally made scenes like this to punctuate the audacity of the original serials. To me, this is not a slip-up. It's an inside joke of the creators.

The trap was reset between the time Indy set it off and Sopitos swiped the idol and got "nailed" (heh heh) by it. Maybe it reset by itself? Anyway, it's called Dramatically Correctness...

When watching movies such as "Raiders of the Lost Ark", you had better be ready to suspened all your disbelief. Escapism is what these movies are all aboout anyway.

This merely requires "suspension of disbelief". They teach this if you've ever taken a film course. Some of them require more SOD than others. This is not a big deal.

I can only suspend my disbelief so much.

Now, there is suspension of disbelief for the sake of entertainment...and then there's a blatant disregard for logic and the laws of nature. One can suspend so much. While it makes for a nice part of the scene on how sensitive the traps were, it doesn't make much sense unless you believe that someone came in and reset the traps after the sun rose everyday in the thought that one day, it might be set off by a human. And that seems pretty silly to me. Escapism or not.
