U-571 - The Americans?
It was well known by anyone who studied the war that, missions such as the one carried out in the film, was Made by British SAS and Canadian Spies, not Americans. Due to the fact that the mission was carried out well before America even joined the war. This is just a bad historical slip up. Goes to show how Americans think they did everything

It's not about the Americans thinking we did everything. In fact the movie gives credit where credit is due to the ships and crews that really did do it. The film-makers never said that it was a true story just based on actual events that were done by other people. In my opinion, not a slip-up at all.
