At the beginning of the movie when the grandfather comes to visit his grandson, he opens the cover of the book twice: one time, then the camera focuses on the grandson, then back again after he puts on his glasses.

Maybe the kid was playing with the model car during the story? Recall, he was bored with the story at first.

The grandpa didn't close the book. In one shot he's holding the book open and takes his glasses out of his pocket.In the next shot the book is shut and he puts on his glasses. He definitely didn't close it!

Actually, the angle of the car does not change. rather, it's the angle of the camera, making it look like the car is from different angles (sorry Annette, I know I'm not supposed to comment on comments, but I wanted to clarify my last comment regarding the car. I've seen the movie since then)
