Fast and the Furious, The - A Manual Shift by Itself?
This slip-up occurs when Brian picks up Dom running from the cops after the 4 car street race. They just sped away from the cop car and are talking about their pasts. If you listen, you can hear the car shifting gears but can clearly see both of Brian's hands on the steering wheel. I know this is picky because there are a lot of movies when you see people not shifting but I believe that they should have been more careful about it considering it was a car movie and car fanatics will see things like this.

This is true. I've seen it alot in movies too. The only thing that you have to remember is... not all standards are standard only. There are Automatic/Standard trannys too. You know, the trannys that are made to look like a standard and have manual shifting capabilities like a standard.. yet they also have a Drive, Park and so on for Automatic shifting. They are called Street/Strip Transmissions I believe... and I wouldn't be surprised to find one in one of those babies. (I've seen them in Imports such as these before)

It's called a "full manual valve body." It alows the transmission to be a auto for street driving or manual for race.

Since this eclipse has NONE OF THE ABOVE... if you listen you CAN hear the car "shift" but its not a shift at all... its the Waste Gate off the turbo (blow off valve)... hes feathering the throttle... for those of you who know or have one.. you know what i am talking about... the waste gate lets off excess air that the turbo produces and wah lah you have a "shifting" sound!

These shifters are called "Semi-automatic" Thats what I read in Motor Trend magazine.

Um first of all waste gates are in the exhaust system so they don't blow off excess pressure created by the turbo because that's in the induction system. All the waste gate does is adjust how much exhaust gas enters the turbine housing. Secondly this was a mistake. This car did not have any automatic stick shift in it.

I agree, thats BS even if it was a "manual auto" trans you would still have to hit the shifter the way you wanted to shift, either upshift or downshift so as long as you see him shift a manual trans in other scenes then they did screw up. I wouldnt expect too much from a movie that shows lowered cars jumping 30 ft in the air though! Its just entertainment.

well the wastegate on my T4 thats on my evo (the same turbo Brian has on his eclipse) you cant hear the blow off until you take your foot off the gas, if you switch gears you hear the pitch change because of different gears. there is a pitch change so theres no doubt hes changing gears. eclipses cant have a auto / manual transmission due to the "7 bolt" design in the 2g eclipses therefore there is no possible way it can be an automatic / manual. some cars can. i agree. but not a 2g 4g63.
