13th Warrior - The Norsemen's Language
Some of the norsemen speaks "old-norwegian", like the real norsemen did. But some of the characters, like the girl who is being sacrificed, speaks modern norwegian. This is of course something that very few non-norwegieans notice, but it is extremely annoying.

I don't think it would be annoying for me if I was from Norway, it's still a slip-up but it was probably because they didn't know the exact translation to old-Norwegian. It's true that they could have done a little research, but it's not that important, well anyways, it's a slip-up.

I like this. My little brother's and I had been wondering about the language spoken in the movie and if anything dealing with it had been improper. Thanks for clearing that up. I would feel the same way about it being annoying, but perhaps they did their best and that's that.

Since I live in Norway, I can understand how the two versions of one language in the film can be annoying (let's hope they didn't switch from Bokmål to Ny Norsk!) Hollywood is known for its glamour and fantasy, not it's correctness.

Just a correction I would like to make. The people from the movie aren't Norse men. They are North men. Just thought that in commenting on slip-ups you should be a little more careful.

Yes, it was quite annoying having them switch between Nynorsk and Bokmal. Even though I speak both, it's still a little annoying. I also did not like when they are sitting around the fire and they start mixing Norwegian and English. "Do not fortelle my wife, for jeg will be coming..."

I would like to say something about the comment Lilly made, she said that Norse men are called north men well they can be called Norse men, north men , Vikings and other things...NOT just north men!

Just for the record, the whole interjecting the Norse language with English was to show that he was in fact learning the language, and he was understanding a little bit of it.
